At the age of 14, I moved from Moonie, Qld to Rockhampton, to begin working for Tropic Horse Stud near Mt Larcom. This gave me the opportunity to work continuously with horses everyday. Doing this gave me the knowledge to learn about horses.

Reading articles every night from the Western Horseman, from trainers all over the world. Then having the opportunity next day to go and put that into practice every day.
These Western riding skills that Rick learnt combined with his Australian Horsemanship skills has prepared him to be able to train horses for any discipline
It is all trial and error but you soon learn what does and doesn’t work as your horses will tell you when you are doing it wrong. Always take the time to think about what you are doing with your horse.
Riding and training Sprint Racing Quarter Horses was an exciting time of my life. Followed on by riding in rodeos.
Selling horses to the public taught me to learn to read people and what horses would suit them. This showed me that I needed to sell my horses from home so I could have the opportunity to better match people to their horses.
My business now is to prepare and campaign horses for the public, in any discipline. The discipline that is my favourite is campdrafting and the family atmosphere it has.
Having gathered all this knowledge over the years I am now looking forward to passing on the skills to everyone in the future.

1976 topped Rockhampton Quarter Horse Sale, selling horse, Poco Twist.
1st Wyeba Cup, Noosa Heads Sprint Race , rode & trained horse, Maestro.
1982 Rookie All Around Australian Professional Cowboy Champion.
1982 Rookie Bullriding Champion.
Won invitation Open Bullride at Rockhampton in 1982.
1983 1st Maiden Draft Australian Campdraft Assn finals at Bluff, on Maestro.
Preparing sale horses while working on cattle properties.
1993 5th Cloncurry Challenge, Blazing Chick, broken in & trained by me.
1995 Competed successfully at Australian Stockhorse Nationals with placing
in Stallion Under Saddle,
making final campdraft section.
Established my own training facilities at Rockhampton.
Won Maiden & Novice Drafts for clients.
Won Cutting & Two Handed Cuttings for clients.
Won & Placed in Open Drafts for clients.
Won & Placed in Reining & Working Cow Horse for clients.
Still active won 2004 Hedley Parter Memorial Bareback at the indoor arena at the
Great Western Hotel,
Rockhampton, Old Timers Rodeo.
